Encouragement For A Weary Heart
June 25, 2009
Memory verse: Phil. 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Psalm 19
Vs. 7-10 “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”
As I said yesterday I have heard these verses put to music and sang on different occasions. Yesterday we look at verses 7-8, today we will look at 9-10.
I love the Treasury Of David (TOD) on the Psalms, here is what it says about verse 9, (TOD) The fear of the Lord is clean. The doctrine of truth is here described by its spiritual effect, viz., inward piety, or the fear of the Lord; this is clean in itself, and cleanses out the love of sin, sanctifying the heart in which it reigns. Mr. Godly fear is never satisfied till every street, lane, and alley, yea, and every house and every corner of the town of Man soul is clean rid of the spider webs that lurk therein.
Enduring for ever. Filth brings decay, but cleanness is the great foe of corruption. The grace of God in the heart being a pure principle, is also an abiding and incorruptible principle, which may be crushed for a time, but cannot be utterly destroyed.
“The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.” God’s judgments are true because they are based on His Word which is truth. Jesus testified to this in His prayer in the garden just before his arrest. John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
Verse 10 “More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” Hear David is talking about all the things he written on in this chapter. The first few verses spoke of God creation of the heavens and how every nation on earth can see them. Then in the verses 7-10, the law of the Lord, the testimony of the Lord, the statues of the Lord, the commandments of the Lord, the fear of the Lord and the judgments of the Lord. David says here in Vs. 10 that these are to be desired above gold, and they are sweeter than honey. If you are a child of God you will agree with David about this.
